Spotsylvania May 1864

On May 5th, 1864, the Second Vermont Brigade participated in a running battle that began at the Wilderness and continued to the Spotsylvania Courthouse. Known as the infamous “Bloody Angle”, fighting reached its fiercest with hand-to-hand combat. This was the beginning of what is known as “the Forty Days.”
