Gettysburg July 1863

While the First Vermont Brigade under command of Lewis A. Grant from Brattleboro, Vt was still 30 miles away from Gettysburg, the Second Vermont Brigade was already occupying the battlefront at Cemetary Ridge. On July 3rd, 1863 the Vermont Second Brigade made their fame at Pickett’s Charge. Under Stannard, two Vermont regiments fired upon the flank and rear of the charging Confederate soldiers which broke their charge.
