Petersburg April 1865

After fighting at Gettysburg, the Second Vermont Brigade fought at Spotsylvania, continued on to Cold Harbor, and ended up in Petersburg on April 1st, 1865. Literally almost non-stop it was a running battle. Documents state that it was the fiercest fighting of the campaign that included hand-to-hand combat. These series of battles became known as “the Forty Days.”
