Monocacy July 1864

July 9th 1864, the 10th Vermont Infantry led by General Lew Wallace engaged in battle on the Washington turnpike. They had been standing guard to save Washington and “Saved It We Did” as stated by the monument erected by the state of Vermont on the battlefield.
